The Accreditation and Quality Audit Group.

The Accreditation and Quality Audit Group receives applications for course accreditation from member universities/ organisations.  After consideration of submissions, it has the authority to provisionally accredit courses which it considers to be of a sufficiently high standard.

Accreditation lasts for 5 years and during this period the Accreditation and Quality Audit Group undertakes a Quality Audit visit to the institution/ organisation and at its discretion, may attend the training programmes offered.  An audit visit would normally be carried out within the first year of provisional accreditation.  The Accreditation and Quality Audit Group has the authority to refuse or rescind accreditation.

The outcome of the accreditation process is communicated to the Establishment Licence Holder of the relevant institution and to the Universities’ Training Group.  If accreditation is refused or rescinded the Accreditation and Quality Audit Group will provide reasons for its decision.

The Accreditation and Quality Audit Group receives and ratifies written assessments set by the Universities’ Training Group and evaluates the results of assessments. The Accreditation and Quality Audit Group Secretary keeps the Home Office ASRU informed of meeting dates and any important developments.

Representatives of the Accreditation and Quality Audit Group attend quarterly Home Office ASRU stakeholder meetings.

Cost of Accreditation:

The current costs are:

£250, payable at the time of application for accreditation. Thereafter (assuming the application is successful), £250 per annum for the next four years of the accreditation period, i.e. £1250 in total over five years.
plus £14 per certificate issued to a trainee who successfully completes the course at the institution/ organisation. A Certificate will be issued to each successful candidate stating which (UK and EU) modules have been completed and on what species.

Please note that fees may, on occasion, be varied to reflect the actual cost of accreditation and audit of a particular institution.  Any variation from the published cost of accreditation will made following consultation between the QA Group and the institution concerned (via the Universities’ Training Group members) and with their joint agreement on the revised terms.

Fees will be subject to review and possible revision.
