The Training Group:
The Universities’ Training Group is comprised of representatives from each University/organisation which is accepted into the scheme. Each representative is nominated by the relevant Establishment Licence Holder (person responsible for compliance Directive 2010/63/EU Article 20) and must be someone directly responsible for licensee training at their institution/ organisation. The role of the Universities’ Training Group is to co-ordinate the provision, at a uniformly high standard, of training and assessment, for licensees at member institutions/ organisations. The Home Office Animals in Science Research Unit (ASRU) and each of the other UK Accrediting Bodies are invited to nominate a representative to attend meetings of the Universities’ Training Group as an observer:
The advantages of membership are that the Universities’ Training Group:
serves as a forum for the exchange of information relevant to licensee training.
seeks to disseminate ‘good practice’ across institutions/ organisations.
facilitates the efficient utilisation of resources and expertise. Institutions/ organisations will derive mutual benefit from combining resources in areas such as:
- course notes;
- materials;
- expert teachers;
- assessment criteria/methods
- offers advice on the preparation and submission of applications for course accreditation.
In addition, the Universities’ Training Group sets written assessments, which must be taken by trainees at member universities/ organisations, a certificate being issued to each successful trainee.
The Universities’ Training Group reports to the Accreditation and Quality Audit Group on the training activities of member institutions, including statistical returns of trainees and assessment results.
The Universities’ Training Group organises regular Trainers’ Day events to offer presentations of interest, provide relevant updates and an opportunity for those involved in training to meet and share good practice.
